The Label

The Label was launched in 2009 in a location in London’s East End off Commercial Road.  Its works are mainly conceptual productions associated with the movement of readymades (object trouvé).  Great examples are tv, schwarz isst weiss or tennisbälle.  The Label's photography offers a selection of themes always seeking to direct focus on the photographer’s circumstances when taking the pictures.  Although launched in 2009, works were produced since the late 1990ies with Oostend considered as the initial production.  Its influence on the following works such as Eine spätsommerliche Reise durch County Donegal is undeniable. All works are marked by the almost as vulgar and ostentatious perceived label placed on the front of each item.  This way of mistreating works by portraying them as marketed products with a label and a product ID is characteristic of the Label’s works.

More recently the Label launched the FRAMES collection which focuses on the frame and considers it as an integral element of an art work. This re-imagining of the original works is achieved by framing these existing art works including their original frames.

In addition to its own woks, the Label collects and trades work of African artists including Admire Kamudzengerere of Zimbabwe, Fasil Assefa of Ethiopia and Oscar Lwalwe of the DRC.
